Partners in Periodontics
Whether your dentist has referred you to our practice or you have chosen us for your periodontal treatment or dental implants, we are happy you are here! Partners in Periodontics is a complete periodontal care practice offering gum disease treatment, wisdom teeth extraction, dental implants, and cosmetic periodontal procedures.
Periodontist vs. General Dentist
A general dentist provides comprehensive dental care, including cleanings, fillings, and basic oral health services. A periodontist, however, is a specialist with advanced training focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease, and the placement of dental implants. Patients with moderate to severe gum disease, gum recession, or complex implant needs are typically referred to a periodontist for expert care.
Periodontal Maintenance vs. Adult Prophylaxis
Adult prophylaxis (a standard dental cleaning) is designed for patients with healthy gums and no history of periodontal disease. It focuses on preventing issues through routine plaque and tartar removal above the gumline. In contrast, periodontal maintenance is a specialized cleaning for patients who have been treated for periodontal disease. It includes deeper cleaning below the gumline, monitoring pocket depths, and managing inflammation to maintain long-term gum health.
